Occupation: Actor.
Active: '90s-2000s
Major Genres: Drama, Comedy
Career Highlights: Scream, Scream 2, Drowning Mona
First Major Screen Credit: The Dark (1994)
Biography
Born October 3, 1973, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Neve Campbell knew she was meant to be on the stage, but not, as many would assume, as an actor. From the age of six, Campbell trained as a dancer, earning a place with the National Ballet School of Canada when she was just nine years old. However, her ambitions to be a professional dancer were cut short by a series of injuries, leading her to pursue an acting career. Campbell got her first break on the 1992 Canadian television series Catwalk, from which she garnered stateside attention. After a string of minor films, Campbell eventually landed the role of Julia Salinger on the TV series Party of Five (1994). While the program was being saved from cancellation by a massive base of fan support, Campbell was finding work in film, first in the teenage coven classic The Craft (1996). Next came a lead role in Wes Craven's horror flick Scream (1996), a huge success that would define American teen films for years to come. It was duly followed up the next year by Scream 2, which, like its predecessor, proved to be enormously popular. In 1998, Campbell appeared in three wildly divergent films, ranging from the small Canadian independent Hair Shirt to 54 to Wild Things, in which Campbell and Denise Richards starred as two high schoolers with morally questionable extracurricular activities. With the concurrent successes of these films and her television work, Campbell has proven herself to be a rare kind of performer, moving effortlessly from television to film and back, without the negative connotations experienced by previous generations of actors. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi

Mariah Carey
Biography
Born: Mar 27, 1970
Occupation: Actor
Active: '90s-2000s
Major Genres: Music, Comedy
Career Highlights: Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' By Sapphire, Wisegirls, Tennessee
First Major Screen Credit: Saturday Night Live: Patrick Swayze (1990)A songstress possessing a remarkable eight-octave vocal range who in the early '90s excelled to become one of the top female vocalists of the decade, Mariah Carey's rocky transition from musician to actress played a key role in fueling a much-publicized nervous breakdown in late 2001. And though her cinematic debut in Glitter (2001) may have not been quite the crossover success the aspiring actress had hoped for, as a remarkably talented vocalist Carey continues to maintain her supportive fan base as a result of her dynamic voice and exceptional songwriting abilities. Born the daughter of a former opera singer and vocal coach in Long Island, NY, in 1970, and named after the song "They Call the Wind Mariah" from the popular Lerner and Loewe musical Paint Your Wagon (1969), Carey began singing at the age of four, and writing her own songs by the time she was attending Oldfield Middle School. Moving to New York to pursue a career as a vocalist a day after her graduation from Greenlawn's Harborfields High School, the ambitious singer soon teamed with keyboardist Ben Margulies and landed a job as a backup singer for Brenda K. Starr. Aided by Starr in ensuring her demo tape found its way into the hands of Columbia Records head Tommy Matola (the man whom Carey would later wed and eventually divorce) at a party, Carey was soon signed to the label and with the release of her massively successful eponymous debut in 1990, achieved overnight success. With strong follow-up efforts establishing Carey as one of the premier vocalists of the decade (she had a number one single each year of the 1990s, her songs spending more time at the Billboard top spot than any recording artist in history) it was only a matter of time before the established singer attempted to expand her career. Suffering a physical and emotional breakdown months before the release of her big-screen debut in Glitter, Carey's "lambs" (her slang term for her loyal fans) rallied to her side in support upon the release of numerous scathing reviews. Inspired by such musical dramas as Fame (1980) and Purple Rain (1984), the semi-autobiographical retro tale of a young singer rising to fame despite the odds stacked against her was dismissed as cliché and laughably bad, with reviews specifically targeting the vulnerable singer's sub-par performance and the films unintentionally campy tone. Public appearances in which her behavior grew increasingly bizarre coupled with distressing messages on her website and fan phone line underscored the onetime pop diva's increasing mental collapse, making her admission into a Connecticut mental hospital seem almost inevitable to all who bore witness to her multiple public meltdowns. Following the failure of the accompanying album of the same name, Virgin Records bought out her 100-million-dollar contract for a mere 28 million dollars, and it appeared as if the one-time megastar had reached her nadir. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Cancer treatment significant advance

The recent review on advances in the treatment of prostate cancer does not adequately capture the the significant advance that the Provenge vaccine represents for men suffering from metastatic (advanced) prostate cancer. This is the first vaccine ever approved by the FDA for the treatment of active cancer. While it is not a cure for the disease, it does offer men a safe, immune-based method to control the cancer that has spread to their bones and lymph nodes.
The cost of the treatment is covered by most major insurance companies, including Medicare. Men with advanced prostate cancer should consider their suitability for the vaccine before beginning chemotherapy.

For her performance as Dedee, Ricci was nominated for a Golden Globe and attained the unofficial title of the Sundance Film Festival's 1998 "It" Girl.

Sarah Palin visit to San Jose Oct. 14
The event at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts does, organizers at the Liberty and Freedom Foundation said, still have tickets available..
Executive director Victor Cocchia said the group chose San Jose for a Sarah Palin event "because we thought it was important to come to the Bay Area. Conservatives stay away from the area too much. If you're going to spread a conservative message you need to go where it needs to be heard, and what better place than the Bay Area?"
Cocchia said the former Alaska governor and would-be veep will deliver "not just national message" but a "regionalized" one targeted specifically from the Bay to the Valley. Water anyone?
He said could not yet say whether Palin would weigh in for any candidates (Palin has already endorsed GOP Senate challenger Carly Fiorina), but "obviously we intend to have a number of dignitaries from the area and we are still finalizing the list."

Stock prices fall globally
LONDON
Stock prices on European markets were dragged lower Monday by an expected retreat on Wall Street, at the start of a major week on the economic news front that may go a long way to determining investors' views about the world economy going into the last quarter of the year.
In Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was down 26.26 points, or 0.5 percent, to 5,566.64 while Germany's DAX fell 62.27 points, or 1 percent, to 6,149.07. The CAC-40 in France was 38.65 points, or 1.1 percent, lower at 3,653.24.
Wall Street was poised for a fairly hefty retreat at the open later — Dow futures were down 42 points, or 0.4 percent, at 10,726 while the broader Standard & Poor's 500 futures fell 5.8 points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,136
Even though stocks enjoyed one of their best Septembers in years — the S&P 500 index added nearly 9 percent during the month alone, its best September performance since 1939 — sentiment remains fragile ahead of key economic data and a raft of central bank policy statements.
The key release this week comes on Friday with the monthly U.S. nonfarm payrolls report for September. The jobs data often set the market tone for a week or two after their release and investors will be closely monitoring the September data to see if the pace of job creation in the private sector is picking up, as some recent indicators have suggested.
The data could have a bearing on whether the Federal Reserve takes further action to stimulate the U.S. economy — a move likely to lower long-term interest rates.
Tiger Woods
TIGER Woods has a potty mouth!
Sources say the golfer — who recently finalized his divorce from sexy Swedish model Elin Nordegren, whom he cheated on with a string of different women — uses foul language in front of his young children.
Woods was on a private golf course near Orlando, Fla., with daughter Sam, 3, and son Charlie, 1, and a nanny, watching a friend hit a few balls and was overheard screaming profanities!
“F**k yeah,” Tiger allegedly screamed to cheer his pal on when he made a good shot.
“And he used the word ‘mother f**ker’ a few times,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer. “The kids were standing right there, but Tiger didn’t care.
“Tiger handed his son a tiny club to show that the boy’s got good aim and praised him by saying, ‘Not bad for a little s*it’.”
It was recently claimed that Woods has given up his sex therapy sessions.
“The other patients at the center were expecting him to be there and were shocked when he was a no-show,” a source said last month.
“For months, Tiger had said he was planning to attend, but just a week before the sessions were to begin, he dropped out.
“The follow-up is usually a required part of therapy, and missing it almost surely means that Tiger is done with sex addiction counseling.”
“Elin never believed Tiger was a sex addict. She just believes he’s a low-down cheating dog.
“She said, ‘Tiger cheated because he wanted to cheat and thought he could get away with it.’”

Tom Brady Interview
New England's newest corps of receiving options can only be effective if Tom Brady puts them to use.
Through three games this season, Brady has had mixed results in that department, and at times he has turned the spread offense into a misnomer. Surely, wide receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker are two of the best in the business, but the Patriots won't experience their expected level of success if they don’t do their part to incorporate tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, and wide receivers Brandon Tate and Julian Edelman.

Star Wars Latest News
Star Wars Celebration
Though nearly 35 years of “Star Wars” fandom have yielded all kinds of memorabilia inspired by George Lucas’s outer-space epic, including light saber look-alikes and wearable reproductions of Princess Leia’s slave costume, one holy grail has lately eluded fans: a video version of the “Star Wars” films that takes the fullest advantage of their top-of-the-line home theater systems.
That’s a Death Star-size void that Lucasfilm plans to fill shortly. On Saturday, the studio announced that it will release all six live-action “Star Wars” features on Blu-ray DVD in fall 2011. A boxed set containing the Blu-ray versions of the movies, from 1977’s “Star Wars” through the final 2005 prequel, “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith,” will mark the first time the films have been offered in a high-definition home format, and will include documentary features and previously unseen footage.
